Amanda Brugel

Many people unfamiliar with the word frequently think that it's an island that's to the west of Montreal however, the West Island is home to every aspect of Lachine west to the Lachine city. Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay there was short. Brugel grew up in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. She was determined to be professional, however due to a rapid increase in her height, she outgrew the dance partners she had. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet, 1 inch." As I grew older than my male partners I stopped. Many former dancers turn into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion from her high school teacher of drama. It was the teacher who recommended she go after a role in the annual school production. The audition was successful and she was chosen in the role of Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Since then, Brugel's been involved in more than 60 shows, smaller and large. One of the most memorable was the time she was cast as Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian in the season 1 actors of the series and seen only occasionally, was the only Canadian.
